Verizon Buys Alltel Wireless To Expand EVDO Network In their quest to become the cellular carrier with the largest network, Verizon Wireless has agreed to terms to acquire Alltel Wireless for a deal worth about $28 billion.After the acquisition Verizon will have about 80 million subscribers, putting them ahead of AT&T's 71 million.
